Bomb blast in Pakistan leaves four dead and several injured

(CNN) — At least four people were killed and 15 others injured after a bomb exploded outside a university in the city of Quetta, in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, on Thursday, local police said.

According to Zia Langau, adviser to the interior minister of the province, the explosion was carried out using a remote control device. She added that a student ideological group was holding an event when the explosion occurred.

Officials said foolproof security arrangements have been made before the New Year.

There was no immediate attribution of responsibility.

Quetta is the capital city of Balochistan province, near the country’s border with Afghanistan. The province has witnessed a decades-long insurgency by separatists demanding independence from Pakistan.
