How long does it take to return the Income Tax Return in Spain and how to check the status


(CNN Spanish) — The term of the request for the draft of the income statement began this Wednesday. Taxpayers can now carry out the procedures for the self-assessment of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) via the Internet. As usual, many questions arise among those who have already submitted the draft.

The concern is focused on the time it takes the Treasury to return the corresponding money. To do this, it will be necessary for the declarer to obtain a negative number in the result of the declaration.

To know if this year you have to pay the Treasury, or if they return you instead, you must have submitted the Income Tax Return by some of the available methods. On this occasion, the Tax Agency has the electronic service through Website rental, by phone or in person, in both it is mandatory to have an appointment. Appointments can be requested through the App, through the website or at the following telephone numbers: 901 12 12 24 or 91 535 73 26.

At the time that the declarant has submitted the return and it is negative, the refund must be requested through the “Income or Refund Document” (form 100) that accompanies the forms of the return itself.

The refund will be made to the bank account that the user indicates in the Return Document, although as indicated by the Tax Agency Payment by check can be authorized on its website. The Treasury has a period of six months to make the return to the declarant. This period begins to run from the end of the term of presentation of the declarations.

How can I check the status of the declaration?

You can obtain information on the status of the processing through the Tax Agency website, by accessing the “2021 Income” services. You will be able to consult your files in the option “Draft / tax return processing service (Renta WEB)”.

To proceed with the consultation, it is necessary to identify yourself by means of a digital certificate or DNIe, Cl@ve PIN or with the reference of the draft/2021 Income tax return. Once accessed, one of the following messages will appear in the “Processing Status” section of the file: “Your return is being processed”, “Your return is being verified”, “Your return has been processed by the Tax Management bodies, estimating the refund requested by you”, etc.

As soon as the program has carried out the checks and the income statement is correct, a message will appear showing you when the corresponding refund will be issued. Otherwise, if the return is still pending, the Treasury recommends that the declarant access his file to check the draft and verify if he is within the system called VERIFICA (Self-correction of declarations).

Through this method you can check if there is any incident with your return and a possible reduction of your return. You can continue with the telematic procedure and it will conclude with the notification of a liquidation proposal with the reduced refund or if you want you can do it through the traditional verification system.
