Hundreds of migrants found inside a trailer in southern Mexico


(CNN) — Hundreds of migrants from 14 countries were detained Friday in Chiapas, Mexico, “in overcrowded conditions in the back of a truck,” according to a statement issued by the Mexican National Guard.

The 377 migrants were citizens of Bangladesh, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nepal, Nicaragua, El Salvador, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Yemen.

The migrants have been transferred to a temporary shelter with the help of the National Migration Institute, according to the statement. The driver was made available to the authorities for the “corresponding investigations.”
