Malawi is on the verge of collapse due to the pandemic

At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi, oxygen is running out. Small hospitals don’t have. Many people now choose to die at home. The increase in cases would have been caused by a migrant workforce that returned and introduced the variant of the virus first detected in South Africa. It is a threat that can only be finally eradicated with a vaccine. But, for now, in a continent of 1.2 billion inhabitants, only 25 people have received the vaccine. African nations as a whole would only be able to vaccinate a significant number of their population in a two-year period. Which is plenty of time for the virus to potentially mutate over and over again. CNN’s David McKenzie had exclusive access to the work of hospitals and doctors in Blantyre and the Doctors Without Borders team working non-stop to fight the wave of covid-19. So we can show the audience what is at stake.
