(CNN) — The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced the free multi-trip tickets for Renfe trains from September 1 to December 31.
The measure only applies to multi-trip tickets for Renfe Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia public services (equivalent to commuter and medium-distance trips).
Multi-ride tickets include a minimum of 10 round trips. The measure excludes one-way tickets, or long-distance trips, according to the public network TVE.
“This measure encourages the use of this type of collective public transport to the maximum to guarantee the necessary daily trips with a safe, reliable, comfortable, economical and sustainable means of transport, in the midst of the extraordinary circumstances of constant increase in the prices of energy and fuels,” the Spanish Transport Ministry said in a statement.

Record inflation in Spain
The gratuity in some train services was announced the same day it was known that the consumer prices of Spain they rose 10.2% year-on-year in June, the first time they have exceeded 10% since April 1985, up from 8.7% the previous month, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics on Wednesday.
