Sudan Foils Coup Attempt, Arrests 40 Officers, Senior Officials Say


(CNN) — On Tuesday, a military coup attempt in Sudan failed. Most of the officers involved were arrested, according to three high-ranking government and military sources.

Some 40 officers were arrested after trying to take over the buildings of the state television and the military general command, said a senior government source.

Following the attempted coup, the Sudanese military dispersed throughout the country’s capital, Khartoum.

A military statement is expected to be issued later on Tuesday.
